In this article I am going to share you insights that will serve you well throughout your network marketing career.   A question I have gotten quite often over the years is what do I do when a network marketing team member quits. I am going to share with you the exact system we teach that created a 53% retention and activity rate on our personal team. 

I know that sound like marketing hype, but it is documented truth. If I am able to share with you how to maintain a 53% retention and activity rate on your team, from a financial standpoint how much is that worth to you?

It is common knowledge that 90% of the people that join a network marketing organization quit within the first year.  9 out of 10 that you enroll will be gone within a year.

So if that is true, why would anyone attempt to build such a business model?

I suggest that you and every member of your team know the answer to that question, and you know it well.  Jim Rohn taught it in his classic audio CD How to Build a Network Marketing Business during the track on 3 Basic Laws.   If you are a member of our MLM Training Club, you have heard me say, don’t just by this audio and listen to it, buy it and memorize it, it is that important.

Let me ask you a question now

What is your network marketing team member retention system?

This is not going to be one of those fluff articles telling you to:

* Focus on Your Own Personal Goals and Dreams
* Contact everyone on their team for damage control
* Burn Your Bridges
* Don’t Take it Personal
* It’s a fact of this business and it’s inevitable.
* Attrition in network marketing is going to happen.
and so on and so forth. I am not saying there is necessarily anything wrong with these cliche answers. I heard those answers over and over my first 10 years or so I was in the profession, then I finally got to the point where I were I said NO MORE!

If I had not gotten to that point there is no way that the next year we would have had a 53% retention rate in organization.

That is when the Retention System was developed.

So again I ask you, WHAT IS YOUR RETENTION SYSTEM?

Here is the truth you need to understand. Most people that you classify as those who quit, if you are truthful to yourself it is not that they quit, it is that they never got started.

Preventing people from quitting starts the day they join. Network marketing has become an industry where all the focus is just on getting people in. It is not just about getting people to join your team. As a leader you must develop the mindset it is about:

1) Getting them In

2) Keeping them in

3) Helping THEM Move Forward

This is the concept I have taught for over 20 years, it was part of the culture of our team, and one of the main reason we were able to develop a 53% retention rate.

So when a new member joins the first step we do is ask them to decide WHY they are going to build a business. We ask them to complete a Top 20 list and Top 3 reasons. Those of you that are members of the MLM Training Club this is all going to be review.

We also ask them to complete a memory jogger list of 50 people they know that we can practice with. We do not teach people to span their social media accounts. Sadly we realize that spamming your social media accounts has become the main stream way to launch a network marketing business, quite frankly it is a joke.

The next question we ask is when do you feel you can have this completed?

We are going to get a COPY OF THEIR 20 REASONS (This is important) Their Top 3 Reasons, and a list of 50 people we can practice with and get their business launched.

We then grade the list.

We have a direct mail letter we send to people we know letting them know that we have started a business. In the letter we include a brochure on the companies here product.

This is much like a traditional business may launch. If you were opening a Pizza restaurant you may send a letter along with your menu. That is the basics, if you need to learn more you can learn more at Start Right MLM.

During their first month they will mail out 10 letters a week for the first month & contact their Top 10 business prospects. What makes what we do different is our goal is not to enroll or sponsor them but find out who they know that is a perfect prospect for our business opportunity or product.

Here is another mindset that most be internalized when launching a network marketing business.


The odds of the person you know, being the one you are looking for is slim to none, the odds of them KNOWING THE RIGHT PERSON is extremely High

Teams that master and duplicate this launch process grow and duplicate while the rest of the network marketing world seems to be teaching people to try to talk their friends and family into joining their teams and spam their social media five times a day.

So your goal as a great sponsor to this point is to have your new team member compete their Top 20 Top 3 & 50 Name to Practice with List. They launch their business 10 letters a week for the first month plus contacting Top 10 business minded prospects. The next step is to teach them 5 ways they can master creating leads in their local market.

The odds are that somtime in the first 90 days they are gong to hit a slump.

As a leader you need to identify what I call the SLUMP INDICATOR. Hopefully your team has a weekly event. Maybe a live opportunity event or training online. Maybe you schedule phone time with each member of your team each week, or something along these lines.

As a leader you need to understand that the odds are great that your new team member is going to hit a SLUMP in their first 90 days. You need to be aware of this and looking for it.

Think back about excited people you have had in the past that were calling your daily and fired up. Then for whatever reason, they stopped engaging and ultimately quit your network marketing team.

So what is the SLUMP INDICATOR? Back in the day when everything was center around live opportunity meeting followed by a training, if the new person missed two meeting in row, that was the slump indicator. Today is may be that they are absent two weeks in a row on your online team event. For everyone reading this, the slump indicator will be different, but you need to identify if for your team, and your teams culture.

When the slump indicator trigger goes off you take action. You make a copy of their 20 Reasons sheet, and send it to them with a personal note attached. Just a post-a-note that says something like, I hope you still want accomplish these reasons as much as much as I want to help you accomplish them. Give them time to listen, and then try to have a one-on-one conversation with them, face-to-face if possible. The first slump a new team member has is always the worst.

As a leader it is your responsibility to wait for it, look for the slump indicator and then implement your retention system. The real power of this system is when this becomes part of your team culture.

If we are truthful, network marketing has become an industry that is all about getting them in. If you make the extra effort and focus on keeping them in and helping them move forward the rewards are too many to count.

This is how real leaders look at building teams. Armatures just complain when some one they talk into the business falls off autoship. It is your choice, you can continue as an armature or find the right network marketing mentor

There are only 5 core systems required to build a large duplicating organization. If you dedicate yourself to master them, you will achieve 10X more than most other network marketing distributors that are called successful.

You never can tell how close you are, It may be near when it seems so far,

So, stick to the fight when you’re hardest hit, It’s when things seem worse that you must not quit.
